Mt. Marathon Race (2013). This is a very challenging mountain race which takes place in Seward, Alaska every 4th of July. I have been running the race ever since 1996. I first started as a junior and then reached veteran status (running 10 consecutive years) in 2008. The race includes running up Mt. Marathon, starting at 0 ft. to 3,022 ft in 1.5 miles. The total race is 3.1 miles (so not an actual marathon), but it is grueling with steep, slick trail, several rocky cliffs on the way up, and loose ske, waterfalls and 30 ft. sheer cliffs on the way down.
